As a full-time Professor of Public Policy, Political Science, and History at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, she brings clarity, depth, and humanity to the study of higher education policy, race, gender, and American democracy.

Her book The Power of Black Excellence: HBCUs and the Fight for American Democracy recently received the Best Book on Race and Political Change award from the American Political Science Association’s Race, Ethnicity, and Politics (REP) section—a testament to its impact and resonance.
